ARCC Proposes Citizen Led Regionalization Effort...
Forty one years
ago, Camp, Dresser and McKie recommended the creation of a
regional water and sewer system to serve communities in
Warren, Washington and Northern Saratoga Counties. Earlier
this year, the ARCC rekindled discussion regarding such an
effort by hosting four summits to which officials in these
three counties were invited. As part of this effort, the
ARCC surveyed local communities to determine their existing
water and sewer needs and resources as well as their rates,
future capital needs, and opportunities for expanding
service areas to serve new customers. The Chamber also
collected information about similar regional efforts in
other areas of New York and hosted a meeting with leaders of
a joint wastewater system serving Johnstown and
Gloversville. Believing that it was time to move from 41
years of talking about a regional solution to our region’s
water and sewer needs, the ARCC recently drafted and
presented a proposal to create a joint water and sewer board
and to provide local funding to hire the engineers and legal
experts necessary to create a new regionalized system to
serve our area. We’d like to invite our members and the
general public to view our joint venture proposal via
this
link.
